DIY: Tote Bag Decoupage

Alright! We have to be productive guys! Do what you like and make it happen!

Hahaha. Okay, now we are continuing to craft.

It’s been awhile since the end of last year I posted about how to make embroidered christmas necklace. Now we’re gonna talking about decoupage!

Recording to Wikipedia, Decoupage or Découpage is the art of decorating an object by gluing colored paper cutouts onto it in combination with special paint effects, gold leaf and other decorative elements. Commonly, an object like a small box or an item of furniture is covered by cutouts from magazines or from purpose-manufactured papers.

But we’ll try it something different here. We’ll gonna do it on a tote bag. Come!

Here is what you need guys. Pretty simple.

  • Tote bag
  • Pattern tissue
  • Scissors
  • Glue for fabric
  • Brush
  • Sponge
  • Water

Arrange some decorative looks from pattern tissue that you have. Then, cut it into the shape that you want.

Put some glue on the surface that you have planned to put the pieces of your tissues. Let it dry.

After dried, put your tissue on the glued surface. Take your sponge and make it a little bit wet at the tip of its (squeeze your sponge to get not to much water on the tip. Note: just a little bit of water). With your wet sponge, press your tissue softly. Let it dry.

After the surface is dried, let’s make it protected by gluing the tissued surface. Let it dry then gluing it again to varnish them.

And you’re done! Now you got the beautiful canvas tote bag for your daily activities! 😉

Hope this will be useful for you and see you in the next tutorial! Tchzüss!

Dry it using the light of the sun is much better than it dry by itself.

Christmas Necklace DIY

HELLO! Merry Christmas EVERYBODY! 😍

How was your Christmas? Merry Christmas and may you live a long and happy life filled with goodwill and friendship 🙂

And here’s my DIY for you to keep stylish through the day with a little bit signature of Christmas. Go, check this out!

Those are the things that you need for this DIY. Yes, we’ll gonna make a cute necklace from many simple ingredients. Here’s the details for you.

  1. Cloth-paper.
  2. Embroidery thread.
  3. T-shirt or another fabric that no longer you use.
  4. Needle.
  5. Scissor.
  6. Embroidery hoop.

(for you who live in Indonesia, especially Jakarta, you could easily find those materials on traditional market that sales many fabric, like Tn.Abang)

First, put the cloth-paper on your embroidery hoop. Then, sketch your Christmas icon on the cloth-paper using pencil. I chose Christmas tree for my Christmas icon that I framed with trapezoid shape.

And now it’s time for stitching! Stitch the cloth-paper with the pattern icon that you already sketched. I used horizontal and vertical line for mine. I also used french knot to make the little bunny lamps on the Christmas tree.

After the pattern is closed with thread, let’s start to hide the back side of this embroidery! Release the embroidered cloth-paper from embroidery hoop. Then cut your embroidered pattern by following the shape of the pattern. Don’t forget to give space around 0.5 cm from the embroidered pattern when you cut the shape. And also you have to cut a copy of the embroidered shape for us to use it as the cover of the back side of this embroidery.

Then we stitch again the embroidered pattern with a copy of the embroidered shape to make them unite tightly.

In the meanwhile, we have to prepare for the rope of the necklace.Take t-shirt or fabric that you are no longer use it, then cut the fabric to get 3 long ropes with the wide around 2 cm.

After we get all 3 ropes, then we have to make those unite through a braid.

After we’re done make those unite, then we could attach braided rope into embroidered pattern. And, voila!

Hope this is gonna useful for you. And.. Happy holiday! 😉

My First Decoration Project! #KUTalk15

YEAY! I was soooo excited about that! This is my first decoration project and I was able to give my ideas freely. But for the first time, let me tell you about #KUTalk. So, Kampus Update (KU) is youth opportunities hub based on social media Twitter. They provide information about part time jobs, internships, volunteer & scholarships for college students. They also provide various informative programs such as #KUTalk and #KUChat that running continuously.

#KUTalk is a series of talkshow managed by Kampus Update team every month. They invite guest speaker to share their inspiring thoughts & story and give informal workshop session for students and public.

Do you get it now? 😉

Alright. Let’s move on. So, in this project I have two friends who joined in this team too, Ammy and Rio. For this decoration I develop the main branding from KU which is blue and professional, but still fun and young. For 15th of #KUTalk, KU wanted more creation for the event’s place, wanted a lil bit decoration but still good, but low budget. Than I concepted as our team (the rest of committee of #KUTalk15) wanted with wasted stuff. And my two friends helped on the produce of all things that we need for the decoration.

Got many feedback and advice from team too. Than, here’s the result…

Here are the hand props!

And beautiful sketches from Ammy Elvietta Riyani for this event’s decoration too. We hanged those up on the wall so people could see that those are who ever inspired people through KUTalk.

Actually, all of the stuff above not all of it wasted. There was combination from two ingredients, wasted and new stuff. The curtain I made it all from new stuff. But the hand props, there was +/- 50% wasted materials and 50% new materials.

So happy I have this opportunity and honored that the team trusted me to make it happened. Hope next time could be better than this, create more amazing works, and also use wasted materials much more but still have high quality standard. My dream is to create amazing stuff based on recycle. And this project was the part of my first movement… 😀
